Pennsylvania's heritage is rooted
in its art. Andy Warhol, Mary Cassatt, and Alexander Calder are just a few
famous artists who once called Pennsylvania their home. Pennsylvania also
provided the backdrop for many important works of art, from historical
renderings hung in the state capitol to landscapes displayed at area art
museums. However, part of the value of art is its ability to be viewed, studied
and appreciated by large numbers of people. That means one thing: sharing.
Picture PA, an initiative of the
Pennsylvania Council on the Arts, seeks to register, promote, market, and
enable traveling art exhibits throughout Pennsylvania. Visual art organizations
use the site to register exhibitions that are ready to travel; curators view
exhibits available for leasing and arrange to show them in their area. That
way, art aficionados and students throughout the Commonwealth will be able to
experience the diversity and vitality of art and artists from Pennsylvania in
their own communities.
