The Biennial exhibit began in 1994 as “a celebration of faith in our own resources” with “hopes to make all of [the exhibiting] artists more familiar in their home territory.”
The Pittsburgh Biennial showcases artists of Southwestern Pennsylvania.
The Pittsburgh Biennial reflects a moment of the Pittsburgh art scene in a wide array of mediums, themes, and styles. Examining artistic exchange was the compass in finding this group of powerful artists. These artists, who embrace tradition in the content of now and master new technology for artistic expression, offer us a glimpse of what was, what is, and what the future might be.
